Wasp Control and prevention: At a glance
Wasp species such as paper wasps, yellow jackets and bald-faced hornets build their nests in Spring and Summer months. By the end of Fall, these colonies will reach their maximum size, often housing up to 5000 workers. At any time of year, infestations at home or work are often slowly developing problems.
Whether it’s eliminating an active infestation or being proactive with preventative maintenance, we’ve got it covered in Farmington Valley and it’s surrounding towns.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! Correctly identifying the insect, discussing nuances, and providing a formal proposal for your consideration are all necessary in order to address concerns thoroughly. Contact us or dial 860-658-2266 to initiate the process!
Queen Yellow Jackets commonly build their nests within layers of siding. When nests are not visible we call them “hidden nests”. Hidden nests need additional consideration and care. Applying store-bought repellents to the entry hole will likely force them towards the interior areas of the building. Plugging up the entry hole will do the same and is not recommended.
Many locations are appealing to wasp species. Wasps naturally gravitate towards objects that are light in color, such as white and yellow parts of buildings. They are mainly interested in the upper levels around overhangs and gutter when scouting for nesting areas. Warm brickwork is also attractive, and the yellow jacket species is commonly found occupying old and abandoned chipmunk runs underground, so be vigilant when landscaping and mowing!
This depends on numerous scenarios that may be playing out. If this is at the start of Spring, the most common reason is that pupae which were deposited within the structure last year are now hatching, and adults are emerging. If sightings are in the Summer or Fall, chances are there is a large nest attached to the home and lost workers are being observed indoors.
Yes, but it’s not something we recommend. It takes special skills to remove stinging insects safely. Hornets and yellow jackets are far more challenging (and dangerous) to remove than paper wasps. For the reasons stated above, we do not recommend treating or blocking off entryways of hidden nests.
We know how scary stumbling upon a wasp nest is. This is especially true if you or a loved one are allergic to wasp stings. So we do our best to remove wasp nests from homes in our service area as soon as possible. If you’re dealing with hornets, yellow jackets, paper wasps, or any other stinging insects, please give us a call at 860-658-2266 today!
